US President Donald Trump has filed a $15 billion libel lawsuit against the New York Times, alleging it published false news about him and his family. Trump claimed that the NYT's reporting had damaged his reputation, his companies, Truth Social, and the memecoin TRUMP. Trump claimed the newspaper had been “spreading false news about him, his family and his businesses for decades.” Trump said the following in a statement on his Truth Social account: “Today, I have the great honor of filing a $15 Billion Libel and Slander Suit against The New York Times, one of the worst and most corrupt newspapers in our Nation's history. The “Times” has resorted to lying about your Favorite President (ME!), my family, my job, the America First Movement, MAGA, and our country as a whole for decades. I am PROUD to hold this once respected “rag” accountable, as we have in successful lawsuits against George Slopadopoulos/ABC/Disney and 60 Minutes/CBS/Paramount.” Trump also criticized the newspaper's public endorsement of former US Vice President and late presidential candidate Kamala Harris, saying, “Their endorsement of Kamala Harris was right there on the front page of The New York Times, which was unprecedented and unheard of. This is the largest illegal election aid ever committed.” Stating that the lawsuit was filed in Florida, Trump said that the New York Times' years-long campaign of lies and smear campaign against him had ended. “The New York Times has been allowed to lie, smear, and slander me freely for far too long, and it ends NOW!” *This is not investment advice.
