Halo (HALO) was the initial version of the Halo protocol, designed for private and verifiable off-chain computation, enabling secure execution of smart contracts while preserving data privacy. As the native token, HALO was used for transaction fees, staking for validator participation, rewarding contributors, and governance within the network. Although functional in its foundational capabilities, the protocol lacked the advanced cryptographic optimisations and scalability improvements later introduced in Halo (HLO).
