Sia Foundation Urges Users to Take Control of Their Coins

Siacoin holders are being urged to move funds ahead of the June fork. The Sia network is about to receive its biggest upgrade yet, with a major v2 hard fork scheduled for June 6, giving users just a little time to upgrade their wallets and software. Once launched, anyone using outdated software or storing their Siacoin on exchanges that haven't upgraded will be disconnected. According to a Monday blog post, the fork introduces an entirely new architecture, reworking the core file-sharing protocol and breaking functionality into modular components. Calling it a “foundational overhaul” and even a “rebirth,” the Sia Foundation has framed v2 as a clean break from the legacy system. Under the new rules, nodes still running the old software will stop syncing. Wallets will become unusable. Storage contracts will no longer be valid. To stay on the network, users must migrate to a version 2-compatible stack — renterd, hostd, and walletd — and migrate their wallets accordingly. Several crypto exchanges have confirmed they will support the transition, including Binance, Kraken, and Poloniex. BitMart, CoinW, and Gate.io have not yet made any commitments or are in technical discussions. Bybit and Bithumb have not publicly confirmed whether they will support the new upgrade at all.
