Who Is Kevin Warsh, Donald Trump’s Alleged FED Chair Replacement for Powell? Here Are His Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Views

There are claims that Donald Trump is planning to make radical changes at the FED. It is stated that Trump is considering replacing current FED Chair Jerome Powell with Kevin Warsh. This possible appointment has brought about discussions both in traditional finance circles and in the cryptocurrency world. Kevin M. Warsh served on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve from 2006 to 2011. Warsh, who studied economics and statistics at Stanford University and public policy, graduated from Harvard Law School, and began his career at Morgan Stanley. He joined the George W. Bush administration in 2002 and served on the National Economic Council. Appointed to the Fed Governorship in 2006, Warsh undertook important duties on global economic relations and especially the 2007–09 financial crisis during his tenure. Warsh invested early in algorithmic stablecoin project Basis in 2018 and later in crypto index fund manager Bitwise. But his approach to cryptocurrencies has always been cautious. Warsh, who finds Bitcoin inadequate as a means of payment due to its high price volatility, likened it to gold as a “sustainable store of value.” He described blockchain technology as promising software for the American financial system “when used correctly.” Warsh argued in a 2022 Wall Street Journal op-ed that the U.S. should develop its own central bank digital currency (CBDC) in response to China’s move toward a digital yuan. However, his view drew criticism from Bitcoin advocates because he described private cryptocurrencies as “software that pretends to be money.” Warsh’s views contradict Trump’s recent Bitcoin-friendly statements, which included his promise to establish a Bitcoin strategic reserve for the United States at the Bitcoin Conference in Nashville in July 2024. It is not yet clear whether Trump will actually appoint Warsh to head the Fed. *This is not investment advice.
